UK Settlement 2026: The Complete Guide to the New 10-Year Rule
On 2 November 2026 the UK government announced that most migrants will wait 10 years, not 5, before they can apply for permanent settlement (indefinite leave to remain, ILR). How long you wait now depends on what you earn, what job you do, how you arrived and whether you have ever broken the rules, from 3 years at the fastest to 30 at the slowest.
